Avec l'aménagement de la zone naturelle de la Bleiswijkse Fles au nord-ouest de la Rotte entre le Lange Vaart et l'A12, la zone naturelle autour de la Rotte est à nouveau un peu plus grande. La Bleiswijkse Fles est accessible à vélo depuis le côté sud via un nouveau pont couvrant le Lange Vaart.
Pour enrichir la nature dans la zone du Recreatieschap Rottemeren, deux îlots de coquillages de 4×5 mètres flottent dans la Bleiswijkse Fles depuis fin avril 2017. Ils ont été spécialement aménagés comme sites de nidification pour les sterne pierregarin. Les oiseaux en font grand usage.
