Ossenwaardpad est un chemin de halage récemment construit le long de la Kromme Rijn.
En l'an 47, les Romains ont proclamé le Rhin comme la frontière nord de leur Empire romain, le soi-disant 'Limes'. Les randonneurs sur ce chemin suivent les traces des Romains, qui à l'époque gardaient ici la Kromme Rijn.
La Kromme Rijn était autrefois une rivière sauvage, au moins aussi large que le Lek d'aujourd'hui. C'était une route navigable importante pour le transport et le commerce entre Utrecht et Dorestad (Wijk bij Duurstede). Avec des barges spéciales, les Krommerijnders, les passagers étaient 'chassés' de Wijk bij Duurstede à Utrecht sur le chemin de halage pour 8 cents et 12 centimes.
