Le 7 mai 1999, le premier nœud cycliste néerlandais a été dévoilé à Ohé et Laak, inspiré par l'exemple belge. En juillet 1995, le tout premier réseau de nœuds cyclistes a été inauguré en Belgique. L'ouverture a eu lieu dans le nord-est du Limbourg belge, initiée par le Paysage régional de Kempen et Maasland et conçu par Hugo Bollen.
