Il 7 maggio 1999, è stato svelato il primo nodo ciclabile olandese a Ohé e Laak, ispirato dall'esempio belga. Già nel luglio 1995, la prima rete di nodi ciclabili venne aperta in Belgio. L'apertura ebbe luogo nel nord-est del Limburgo belga, iniziativa del Paesaggio Regionale di Kempen e Maasland e progettato da Hugo Bollen.
