Pascal Verbeken descrive nel suo splendido libro 'Grand Central Belge' come nel 1892 il Parlamento belga approvò la legge per l'introduzione di un tempo standard in tutto il regno. Questa determinazione temporale fu effettuata presso il Royal Meteorological Institute del Belgio a Uccle e fu comunicata al capostazione di Bruxelles-Nord. Quel capostazione fece sincronizzare tutti gli orologi delle stazioni.
