Questa chiesa vanta una lunga storia edilizia, iniziata nel XIII secolo sotto il conte Baldovino IX. Nel XIV secolo, il conte Lodewijk van Maele aggiunse la cappella del conte. L'interno della chiesa è decorato in un ricco stile barocco nel XVII secolo. La chiesa ospita diversi importanti tesori d'arte, tra cui l'Elevazione della Croce di Antoon Van Dyck, i bellissimi affreschi dei Conti delle Fiandre e la statua di Santa Caterina (un capolavoro riconosciuto!).
