Il Waldhügel è una catena montuosa a sud della città di Rheine. Si estende dall'Ems verso ovest e si trasforma nel Thieberg. Sulla punta più alta del Waldhügel si trova il serbatoio dell'acqua potabile della città di Rheine.
Le cave dismesse fanno parte della riserva naturale del Waldhügel. L'area si estende a sud del centro cittadino di Rheine e a sud di Dorenkamp, un quartiere di Rheine. A ovest scorre la B 70, a est scorre la B 481 e passa l'Ems.
