Torre di avvistamento del XVI secolo, il Barbacane ha mura perforate da numerose archibugiere.
Questa fortificazione avanzata consentiva l'accesso alla città.
Durante la Guerra dei Cento Anni contro gli inglesi, gli abitanti di Cahors dovettero costruire un nuovo bastione a nord (la Barbacane) per proteggere le numerose case e i monasteri.
Il monumento è visibile dall'esterno, ma non può essere visitato.
