La Tour du Roy è il risultato di un piano di ammodernamento delle mura voluto da Francesco I dopo l'assedio di Mézières da parte delle truppe di Carlo V nel 1521.
Nonostante la coraggiosa resistenza della città sotto il comando del cavaliere Bayard, questo assedio rivelò l'invecchiamento delle vecchie mura. Francesco I fece quindi rinforzare le fortificazioni. Le mura di questa torre sono spesse 6 metri e al loro interno si trovano casematte a volta che si aprono con feritoie per i cannoni. Il tetto era piatto: la torre doveva resistere al fuoco dei cannoni e consentire all'artiglieria francese di difendere la città.
Nel 1885 venne aggiunto un serbatoio idrico merlato: il suo aspetto neomedievale!
