Het Woodrow Wilsonplein of ‘het Zuid’ vormt de rand van ‘De Circuswijk’ in Gent. Deze wijk loopt tot aan het Sint-Pietersplein en floreerde van 1880 tot 1960. Vroeger was er op dit plein een groot treinstation, het Zuidstation. Met de Minardschouwburg, Feestlokaal Vooruit, de dierentuin aan het Muinkpark en het Nieuw Circus, was dit dé wijk in Gent waar je in de 19e eeuw moest zijn voor entertainment.
