Köthen of Kothin, is een bewoonde deelgemeente van de stad Märkisch Buchholz in de Landkreis Dahme-Spreewald.
De plaats ligt op ongeveer 5 km luchtlijn zuidoostelijk van Märkisch Buchholz aan de zuidoever van de Köthener See in het biosfeerreservaat Spreewald. De kadastrale gemeente grenst in het noorden aan de kadastrale gemeente Groß Wasserburg, de kadastrale gemeente van de stad Märkisch Buchholz en aan de kadastrale gemeente van Birkholz, in het oosten aan de kadastrale gemeente Leibsch en in het zuiden en westen opnieuw aan de kadastrale gemeente Groß Wasserburg. De plaats is alleen bereikbaar via twee kleine verbindingswegen vanaf Groß Wasserburg en Märkisch Buchholz. De weg naar het dorpscentrum is een doodlopende straat.
