Rond de geboorte van Christus probeerden de Romeinen Germania te veroveren. In deze tijd trokken Romeinse legers langs de Lippe en vestigden ze marskampen in Holsterhausen.
Eerste sporen werden in de jaren 20/30 van de vorige eeuw ontdekt. Tijdens de grootste opgraving in het gebied Kreskenhof van 2000 tot 2002 worden ongeveer 6000 vondsten geregistreerd. Een historiestation, ontworpen door leerlingen van het Petrinum Gymnasium, herinnert nu aan de Romeinse tijd. Het is opgericht op de plek van een van de veel meer dan tien Romeinse marskampen op Holsterhausener grond, die sinds 1927 zijn aangetoond.
