De Calle Granada is de straat waar de Katholieke Koningen de stad binnenkwamen na de verovering. Ze gingen door de Puerta de Granada om deze straat te doorkruisen, een van de belangrijkste straten van die tijd omdat het toegang tot de stad gaf. Hierdoor kreeg het de naam Calle Real. De structuur behoudt nog steeds de oorspronkelijke indeling zoals te zien is in de slingerende vorm, een erfenis van de Arabische stadsplanning. De traditie zegt dat toen ze binnenkwamen, ze dat in een processie deden en dat de koningin een afbeelding droeg met de aanroep van Onze Lieve Vrouw van de Koningen, een afbeelding die hen altijd vergezelde en die al haar juwelen droeg. Ondertussen liep zij erachter, blootsvoets en eenvoudig gekleed. Ze ging in de richting van de grote moskee om deze te consacreren.
