De Sainte-Barbe-kerk werd in 1938-1939 gebouwd volgens de plannen van architect Claude Robbe en voltooid door Alphonse Fenaud, zijn opvolger. De kerk is gewijd aan Sainte-Barbe, beschermheilige van de mijnwerkers.
De kerk is volledig uit metaal opgetrokken, met een dragende staalconstructie en geverfde plaatstalen bekleding, en werd ontworpen als prototype voor de massaproductie van kerken voor de te evangeliseren gebieden. Een glas-in-loodraam met de afbeelding van Sainte Barbe werd gemaakt door de Mauméjean-ateliers in Parijs, gebaseerd op een cartoon van Hélène Delaroche. Op muurschilderingen van Nicolas Untersteller (de echtgenoot van Hélène Delaroche) zijn episodes uit het leven van de heiligen afgebeeld.
