Bayeux, een middeleeuwse stad op de drempel van de D-Day stranden, dankt zijn wereldwijde reputatie aan zijn weelderige kathedraal en zijn beroemde wandtapijt, geclassificeerd door de UNESCO. Beide vieren het epos van Willem de Veroveraar. Elk eerste weekend van juli is de Médiévales de Bayeux het belangrijkste evenement van de stad. Bayeux was de eerste stad op het Franse vasteland die werd bevrijd en herbergt de grootste Britse begraafplaats van Normandië.
