Simpelveld ligt aan het zogenaamde Miljoenenlijntje, dat destijds is aangelegd voor het vervoer van steenkool uit de mijnen en dat tegenwoordig nog slechts een toeristische functie heeft. Op deze lijn rijdt nu gedurende de zomermaandenen op zondagen een stoomtrein van de Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij. Bij Simpelveld takt van deze lijn nog een andere lijn af richting Bocholtz en het Duitse Vetschau. Op deze lijn rijdt een railbus. Zij liep oorspronkelijk door naar de stad Aken, maar dat gedeelte is sinds 1992 buiten gebruik.
