Klarenbeek is een van de oudste landgoederen van Arnhem. In het begin van de 14e eeuw bestond Klarenbeek uit bos en heidevelden. De monniken van het klooster "Monnikenhuizen" hebben toen al vijvers gegraven. In het begin van de 17e eeuw liet de burgemeester van Arnhem, die het landgoed toen in eigendom had, er veel bos aanplanten. In 1886 kocht de gemeente Arnhem het landgoed en richtte het in als park. .
