Startenhuizen is een buurtschap die in de gemeente Het Hogeland ligt. De grens ligt bij de Eemshavenweg.Voor de gemeentelijke herindeling van 1990 maakte het deel uit van het dorp Garsthuizen. Nadien heeft dit gedeelte, een tiental huizen, de naam Startenhuizen gekregen, wat feitelijk de naam van een westelijk gelegen gebied is, waarin zes boerderijen liggen. De naam Startenhuizen komt van staart, een smal stuk land, dat wil zeggen het land gelegen tussen het Maarvliet en het Startenhuistermaar.
