De naam Driebruggen verwijst naar alle waarschijnlijkheid naar een drietal bruggen: de brug over de Dubbele Wiericke, de brug aan het einde van de dorpskern nabij het Dorpshuis Custwijc. En vroeger was er tussen deze twee bruggen nog een derde kleinere brug. Die lag waarschijnlijk bij het kruispunt van de Kerkweg met de Sierkersstraat, daar is nu nets meer van terug te vinden.
In Driebruggen zijn nog enkele historische gebouwen te vinden. 't Hooge Huys aan de zuidkade langs de Dubbele Wiericke is het oudste en dateert uit 17e eeuw. Aaan de kerkweg staat het voormalig doktershuis,die is uit 1885 en het voormalig gemeentehuis uit 1928.
