De kapel werd gebouwd op de top van de heuvel van Santa Margarida door de toenmalige aartsbisschop van Braga, Rodrigo de Moura Teles, die het inzegende op 23 maart 1725.
In de tijd van aartsbisschop Gaspar de Bragança ontwierp architect Carlos Amarante een grote verbouwing aan de kapel, die echter nooit werd uitgevoerd.
De kapel, onder de aanroeping van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Guadalupe, ligt in een omheind park dat wordt beschermd door een muur.
Het heeft een cirkelvormige plattegrond, met een ingang via een vestibule met drie bogen. Boven de hoofdboog is een nis met een afbeelding van Onze Lieve Vrouw van Guadalupe en de epigrafische inscriptie "Protegam vrbem istam 1747".
