Rize is de hoofdstad van het gelijknamige district en de provincie Rize in Turkije. Rize is de grootste stad langs de Zwarte Zee-kust tussen Trabzon en Batoemi, in Georgië. In 2010 telde de stad zo'n 97.000 inwoners. Rize was de laatste stad van het laatste Romeinse Rijk; het Keizerrijk Trebizonde. Hoewel Constantinopel viel in 1453 en Trabzon in 1461, hield Rize het als laatste onafhankelijke Romeinse stad uit tot 1470.
De naam van de stad komt van het Griekse ριζα , wat berghelling betekent. Sinds de 19e eeuw werd de stad Ριζούντα genoemd. Latijnse namen van de stad waren Rhizus en Rhizaeum. Vanaf Ottomaanse tijden werd de stad Rize genoemd, in het lokale Lazisch is de naam Rizini .
