Dat Bouvignes een rivaal van Dinant was staat symbool in de volgende legende.
In 1466 werden inwoners van Dinant per twee in de Maas gegooid als strafmaatregel door Karel de Stoute, de hertog van Bourgondië. Dit gebeurde nadat hij de stad had veroverd en wilde wraaknemen voor beledigingen die hij had ondergaan. Ongeveer 800 burgers werden per twee vastgebonden de Maas ik geduwd.
Toen die stroomafwaarts in de buurt van Bovignes de oevers wilden opklimmen duwden de inwoners van Bouvignes die opnieuw de Maas in.
