I hjertet af Borinage finder du et af de smukkeste eksempler på industriel arkæologi i Belgien: Le Grand-Hornu. Dette sted blev grundlagt mellem 1816 og 1835 af den franske industrimand Henri de Gorge. Han havde i 1810 købt en koncession for at udvinde kul i Hornu.
Det neoklassiske kompleks består af omkring 400 boliger, værksteder og administrative bygninger. Især værkstederne, der ligger omkring en stor central gårdsplads, danner et imponerende hele.
I en del af bygningerne har MAC's været beliggende siden 2002: le Musée des Arts Contemporains.
