KZ Bad Sulza blev drevet fra oktober 1933 til 1. august 1937 i et gammelt hotel i kurbyen Bad Sulza.
Koncentrationslejren blev indtil 1. juli 1936 drevet og finansieret af landet Thüringen. Ansvarlig var den thüringske indenrigsminister, der også beordrede indlæggelsen af fanger. Forgængeren var koncentrationslejren Nohra. Lejrkommandant var politiofficeren Carl Haubenreißer. Lejrens kommandantur blev besat af landspolitiet, mens vagttropperne blev stillet af SA.
