El edificio en Keizerstraat 12-16, construido entre 1896 y 1897 según un diseño del arquitecto J. de Quack en estilo arquitectónico de transición con características del neogótico y del Art Nouveau, fue uno de los más de 50 puntos de distribución de leche en La Haya y Scheveningen.
Cuando, debido al crecimiento de la ciudad, el suministro de leche fresca se volvió problemático, un grupo de ciudadanos de La Haya fundó en 1879 la fábrica de productos lácteos "De Sierkan de 's-Gravenhaagsche Melkinrichting". Desde la fábrica (más tarde varias) la leche era transportada en vagones tirados por caballos a una red de puntos de distribución que iba en constante expansión.
De Sierkan existió durante más de un siglo hasta la adquisición por parte de la Cooperativa Central de Leche Melkunie en 1986.
