De Cocksdorp is the youngest and northernmost village on Texel. The village was founded in 1835 and is named after Nicolas Joseph de Cock who took the initiative to dike and reclaim the Buitenveld, the salt marsh area between the old land of Texel and the island of Eijerland.
The Waddenkerk in De Cocksdorp (national monument) is a neoclassical hall church that dates from 1841. Above the entrance is a small bell tower. The façade of the Waddenkerk in De Cocksdorp has ionic pilasters and checkered side lisenes.
