Kleve (Niederländisch: Kleef) ist eine Stadt im Kreis Kleve im Westen des deutschen Bundeslandes Nordrhein-Westfalen, zehn Kilometer südwärts des Rheins und nicht weit von der niederländischen Grenze bei Nijmegen und 's-Heerenberg. Weiterhin liegt Kleve in der Nähe der deutschen Stadt Emmerich und dem Waldgebiet Reichswald. Kleve hat 49.477 Einwohner und eine Fläche von etwa 98 km². Die Stadt erhielt 1242 das Stadtrecht. Der Ort liegt am Hang eines Moränenrückens aus der Eiszeit. Dieser Moränenrücken begrenzt das Rheintal. Ein Teil von Kleve ist daher sehr hügelig. Der lokale Dialekt ist das Kleverländisch oder das Kleefs, eine zum Niederländischen gehörende Regionalsprache.
