Pladsen kaldet Place de Clairefontaine ligger i hjertet af byen Luxemburg mellem domkirken Notre-Dame og Chamber. I slutningen af 1980'erne blev pladsen redesignet i forbindelse med omfattende restaurerings- og rekonstruktionsarbejder i det omkringliggende byområde. Historisk set løb Rue de Clairefontaine her, som desuden bar det tyske navn Badenburgerstrasse eller Bardenburgergasse, opkaldt efter et tilflugtssted, der tilhørte det tidligere kloster Clairefontaine nær Arel og blev nedrevet i 1933.
