The Butte de Monson - a panorama steeped in history
Now in ruins, the entire site is listed as a Monument Historique. This listing also includes the nearby Templar chapel. A former residence of the Dukes of Bar and a strategic stronghold since Roman times, the summit of the Butte de Mousson is a semi-natural motte, largely surrounded by the remains of the fortified enclosure.
Parts of the walls of the keep, nicknamed "La Grosse Tour", can still be admired. The site offers exceptional panoramic views over the Moselle valley, the Saulnois region and the city of Metz.
