On a hilltop overlooking the Moselle valley, the castle was built to control the traffic on the old Roman road from Lyon to Trier.
The ruins of this castle are listed as a historical monument in their entirety. This classification also includes the Templar chapel built on the site.
Former castle of the Dukes of Bar, a stronghold since Roman times, the summit of the Mousson mound can be described as a semi-natural mound, with a large part of the enclosure surrounding its periphery.
Parts of the walls of the keep, nicknamed "La Grosse Tour", still remain. Magnificent view over the Moselle valley, the Saulnois country as far as Metz.
Opening conditions : Free access. Leaflet on sale at the Town Hall and the Tourist Office of the Bassin de Pont à Mousson.
