Das Gebiet ist 73 ha groß und wird von der Agentur für Natur und Wald verwaltet. Seit 2002 wurden große Teile dieses Gebiets von der Agentur aufgekauft und als flämisches Naturschutzgebiet verwaltet. Das Gebiet ist europäisch geschützt als Teil des Natura 2000-Gebiets 'Dünengebiete einschließlich IJzermündung und Zwin'.
