Die Hochzisterne wurde 1724 erbaut.
Als befestigte Stadt musste Bergues mit der Möglichkeit einer Belagerung rechnen ... ein Schlüsselelement während dieser Blockade ist Wasser ... und es ist in der Stadt allgegenwärtig. Die Militärzisterne, ebenfalls aus dem Jahr 1725, fasste 700.000 Liter Wasser ! Das Wasser wird gespeichert und durch Dekantieren oder Klären gefiltert . Nach den damaligen Hygienestandards galt es als Trinkwasser und versorgte hauptsächlich das Militär und manchmal auch die Bevölkerung.
Im Jahr 1820 wurde die Zisterne im Dachgeschoss mit einem Dach abgedeckt, wodurch ein Getreidespeicher entstand.
Das Dach brannte im Krieg 1940 ab und wurde seitdem nicht mehr wiederhergestellt.
