There is a link between Leut Castle and the Swedish royal family. General Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, later a marshal in Napoleon's army, chose the castle of Leut as his residence during the siege of Maastricht by the French revolutionary troops in 1794, during the War of the First Coalition. Bernadotte became the founder of the current Swedish royal family as Charles XIV John of Sweden.
