Bouvignes being a rival of Dinant is symbolized in the following legend.
In 1466, inhabitants of Dinant were thrown into the Meuse two by two as a punishment by Charles the Bold, the Duke of Burgundy. This happened after he had conquered the city and wanted to take revenge for the insults he had suffered. About 800 citizens were bound together in pairs and pushed into the Meuse.
When they tried to climb the banks downstream near Bouvignes, the inhabitants of Bouvignes pushed them back into the Meuse.
