Brewery Timmermans

The Timmermans brewery was founded in 1781 and is therefore one of the oldest lambic breweries. Henry Vanheyleweghen brewed there from that year and throughout the first quarter of the 19th century, and around 1824 rented the buildings to Jacobus Walraevens. His oldest son Charles succeeded him and in 1832 gave the brewery a name: Brasserie de la Taupe (brewery of the Mole). Later, son Paul Walraevens took over. By the end of the 19th century, the brewery had already expanded to include a malting facility, a fruit nursery, and a café. Brewer's son Frans Timmermans from Zuun, who married Walraevens' youngest daughter in 1911, stopped the farm and fruit nursery and focused everything on the brewery and café. The malting facility continued to operate until the 1960s. Farmer's son Paul Van Cutsem, who married Frans' only daughter in 1934, renamed brewery De Mol to brewery Timmermans, the name it still bears today. It is still one of the larger lambic breweries. Both lambic, geuze, and faro are produced, as well as fruit beers such as kriek, peach, raspberry, and agrum. The Bourgogne des Flandres is a blended beer of the type 'Oud Bruin'.
