Boezinge

Mike Janssen, formerly a marketing manager at a large brewery, decided a few years ago that it was time to dive into the family brewing adventure. He and his then-wife, Mieke De Splenter, set their sights on the castle De Dool in Helchteren, which once served as a summer residence for the abbots of Sint-Truiden. They installed a small-scale but ultra-modern brewery there and began brewing. The blonde Ter Dolen was their first product.

The man who humorously called himself brewer-abbot has since left the castle, and Mieke De Splenter is now at the helm. Due to these family circumstances, she is now the first female brewer in Limburg. Her roots clearly point in a specific direction. Her aunt brews the Kapittelbier in West Flanders' Boezinge. An uncle was a brewer. A distant cousin bottles Kwak. A nephew is a director at brewery De Koninck. Apparently, brewing runs in the family.
