Brewery De Halve Maan is the only city brewery in Bruges that is still active (Bruges once had over 50 city breweries). The existence of this brewery "Die Maene" at the Walplein dates back to 1564 and is one of the oldest still active breweries in Western Europe. Currently, 2 beers are brewed: De Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik (both top-fermented). There is a brewery tavern (with a cozy terrace in the inner courtyard during the summer) where you can taste the beers and sample local regional dishes and beer cuisine. You can join a guided tour every hour that will take you through both the modern brewery and the brewery museum. Along the way, you will have a beautiful panoramic view over the old city center, and the tour ends, of course, with a small tasting of the house beer. Given that this brewery has been linked to the city of Bruges for centuries, this is a must-see attraction when you visit Bruges.
