Pierre Campion, wife Marielle Coenjaerts, and Jimmy Halleux started this brewery in the family farm of Marielle. Campion first took a two-year brewing course at the University College in Ghent before starting the construction of his own brewery. It was built using second-hand materials, including old milk boilers. After the necessary permits were granted, brewing could begin, and in December 2009, the first beer, La Trompeuse, was launched. The brewery was named after Jean, a great-uncle of Coenjaarts who was the last resident of the farm before Pierre and Marielle settled there. He was a lonely figure with a grumpy character who was known in the region as Jean tout seul.
