An important hub in World War I was the station of Adinkerke, which served as a reception center for the wounded. Soldiers were brought to the station by horse and cart or by tram, to travel inland by train from there. However, military transport of ammunition, supplies, and troops took precedence on the single track. In March 1915, there was an enormous influx of wounded. Did you know that at that time Marie Curie hurried to the station with a radiology wagon to screen injured soldiers?
