The Palais des Expositions is a conference and exhibition center located in the Upper Town of Charleroi. It was built in 1953 by architect Joseph André and engineer Léon-Marcel Chapaux.
The project was born from the desire of mayor Joseph Tirou, with the goal of beautifying and enhancing the city. The study of a Palace project for an amount of 70,000,000 francs was decided on June 28, 1948. In October 1949, the estimate rose to 231,500,000 francs. The main structure was inaugurated on June 20, 1954, and the first international exhibition took place in September 1954. It was a technical and industrial exhibition attended by 515 Belgian companies and 456 foreign ones. The month following the exhibition, the Home Arts fair was completed.
