Already in the 6th century, the holy Goar settled right across from the Loreley (Lorelei), at the spot where the city of "St. Goar" later emerged.
In the center of the city stands the collegiate church dedicated to him, featuring Gothic frescoes.
Another attraction is the "Catholic parish church" with one of the most valuable altarpieces from the 15th century.
But the biggest tourist attraction is the Rheinfels Fortress, the largest castle ruin on the Rhine, which towers high above the city.
St. Goar offers opportunities for numerous sporting activities, such as: "Deltaplaning" – including tandem flights – over the valley of the Loreley (Lorelei) and walks along the Rhine Castle Hiking Trail.
Additionally, St. Goar, with its sandy beach, is an ideal stopover during a canoe trip or cycling tour through the romantic castles and fortresses in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
