Cloppenburg Castle is a lost medieval castle of the County of Tecklenburg in the city center of Cloppenburg in the district of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony, immediately south of the Soeste.
The Cloppenburg was meant to serve the Counts of Tecklenburg to secure their northern realm. Initially, in the first half of the 13th century, a fortified house protected by a moat was built in close proximity to the settlement of Krapendorf in the Soeste lowlands on a farm in Hemesburen. Before 1297, this was replaced by a water castle, which was first mentioned in connection with a land exchange on January 5, 1297.
