The historic market in Plaza de la Libertad was inaugurated in 1838.
In October 2009 the Central Market reopened its doors after three years of extensive renovation. The market, after the reform, which kept the original design of the complex, has 57 fruit and vegetable stalls, 54 fish, crustaceans and molluscs, 44 meat, 7 frozen, 4 bread and pastries, 1 olive, 1 for bags and paper, 1 for fishing supplies and a cafeteria on the first floor.
In addition, the Gastronomic Corner is organized every day of the week. The gastronomic corner of the Cádiz market is on its way to becoming as famous as the well-known capital markets such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Bilbao. They are no longer mere markets to become authentic gastronomic and leisure spaces where you can taste the most exquisite sushi, the best potato omelettes, delicacies from the Sierra de Cádiz, Argentine food, etc., a place where it is possible to taste the typical products of Gaditana, to taste the national and international cuisine.
