Hotel Alfonso XIII was built as luxury accommodation for the 1929 World Exhibition, which took place partly in Barcelona and partly in Seville. Construction lasted from 1916 to 1928. The hotel is named after King Alfonso XIII of Spain, who also opened the building at the time.
The hotel was designed by José Espiau y Muñoz in neo-Mudejar style . The interior is richly decorated with azulejos and wrought iron elements. The hotel has 147 rooms and suites, all of which are unique.
