The chapel is the only remaining part of the Colegio de Santa María de Jesús, founded in 1505.
The chapel building is in late Gothic-Mudejar style , with parts in exposed brick.
It was started in 1506. The design is attributed to Alonso Rodríguez. In 1509 Antón Ruiz was in charge of the work. The facade was made in 1514 by the mason Manuel Sánchez.
The Colegio de Santa María de Jesús began receiving students in 1516.
The main altarpiece was made in 1520 by Alejo Fernández. It depicts the Virgen de la Antigua receiving a model of the college presented to her by its founder, Maese Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella.
Also notable are the tile scenes, i n cuerda seca and polychrome.
