MAISON DES DEUX SIRÈNES

Description

Built at the end of the 16th century, the hotel, known as "the two Sirens", takes its name from a corner sculpture which represents not two sirens but two embracing Tritons.

Richly carved, the entrance door is adorned with an Indian head carrying a strawberry, a very fashionable collar at that time.

It was in this house that the Duke of Lorraine Nicolas-François (1634) and his wife Claude de Lorraine, daughter of Duke Henri II, took refuge in order to escape from the French who occupied Nancy and who viewed their marriage in a negative light. On the night of March 31 to April 1, 1634, the ducal couple, disguised as common men, left Nancy and went to Florence.
