Located in the heart of the Brienne plain and on the route of the Troyes-Montier en der Roman road, Perthes les Brienne hasn't always carried this name. Documents dating back to 1632 refer to the village as Perthes en Rothière, a name it retained until 1919. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury of Perthes belonged to the Abbey of Boulancourt, located in the commune of Longeville sur la Laines in the Haute-Marne region. Today, Perthes is renowned for its production of sauerkraut cabbage. The 16th-century timber-framed Eglise Saint Denis is a reminder of the past. Fragments of 16th-century stained glass windows can also be seen. Population: 49 (Source INSEE-PSDC 1999) Surface area: 363 hectares Altitude: 125 meters
