Limestone Block

This limestone strip protects the intramontane basin of Iliakastro. The intramontane basin of Iliokastro has a flat base with deeply developed soils. Those soils were able to develop in a lot of material that was deposited in this basin and that didn't get eroded. The basin is shielded from eroding rivers by a set of limestone blocks. The moment the river gets though the limestone block, they create deep canyons, such as the canyon between Fournoi and Ermioni, known as the Katafiki Ravine.
