The name castle Neubourg is mentioned in a document from 1289. However, this castle was located in a different place, now called burggraverhof. You will walk past this later. The current castle was built in the fourteenth century, the building consists of 3 sections; the manor house, the outer bailey, and the farm. After having served multiple functions, it is now partly empty. During World War II, it was used as the headquarters of the American army. General Montgomery and movie star Clark Gable have stayed there. Even Tsar Peter the Great from Russia visited here on June 17, 1721.
