The Veluwe is the largest forest area in the Netherlands. Large parts of the Veluwe consist of ridges formed by glaciers from the previous ice age (the Saale glaciation). The power of the ice can be somewhat understood when you look at the highest point, the Rozendaalsche veld. This is also the highest ridge in the Netherlands and the highest point in the Netherlands outside of South Limburg. It is located 110 meters above sea level. This point is part of the Veluwezoom National Park, just north of Rheden. To the north, among other areas, are the shift sand area of Leuvenhorst and the Leuvenum forest.
